Bears with racquets at WIC team tennis - Wednesday, July 1, 2009

IRON RIVER—Nelson Field was again visited by “bears” on the evening of June 23, but these bears were holding tennis racquets.

Eight players battled the “unbearable” heat to “bear” down to gain a victory in the Tuesday team tennis competition.

“No one needed to be tranquilized,” reports John Spelgatti, “but the ice water provided a very cold numbing effect on the hot players.”

Results were as follows:

Teddy Bears (Eddie Erhart-Jaclyn Waara) def. Gummi Bears (Matt Baumgartner-Kylee Erickson), 6-4.

Panda Bears (Coach Serbentas-Ashley Skolasinski) def. Koala Bears (Austin Waara-Alex Rolston), 6-2.

Grizzly Bears (Coach Serbentas-Alex Rolston) def. Cubbie Bears (Austin Waara-Ashley Skolasinski), 7-6 (7-1).

Grumpy Bears (Matt Baumgartner-Eddie Erhart) def. Goldie Bears (Kylee Erickson-Jaclyn Waara), 6-0.

Care Bears (Matt Baumgartner-Kylee Erickson) def. Bad News Bears (Eddie Erhart-Jaclyn Waara), 7-5.

All junior high and high school students are welcome to participate in the Tuesday night sessions. If you have any questions, call Coach Spelgatti at 265-5573 to find out what’s “bruin.”
