Be careful what your decoy attracts - Wednesday, June 3, 2009

Dan Harper of Old Beechwood Road in Iron River, would have taken a  very unusual photo on Saturday while sitting in his turkey blind if he wouldn’t have been so stunned by what he observed. Dan has two turkey blinds within sight of his house. On Friday, May 29, he noticed some birds finally coming in after a long absence. Bright and early Saturday morning he headed for his blind and was sitting by 5 a.m. Around 6 a.m. he began scratching and chirping with a Primos box call. He watched as a bald eagle circled overhead. The eagle then banked down and nailed his turkey decoy. It had its talons firmly imbedded in the artificial bird and took off with it. It even broke the metal stake. Dan said that in his 50 years of hunting he has never seen such a thing. He also noted that his wife, Janet, had been in the house watching the entire, unusual event.
