When the votes were tallied at the Iron County Fair, the top photo three winners in the second annual Northwoods Animal Shelter photo contest. Pictured from left are, Greg Hansen holding “Hunter,” the Yorkshire terrier pet of second place winner ($92.01) Jennifer Lowden of Iron River; Shirley DeRoche of Iron River, third place winner ($84.89) with her favorite cat, “Emmet Kelly;” and Jim and Karen Frazier Teasdale of Iron River, first place winner ($221.30). A total of $971.14 was raised by the contest for the shelter. Shelter Manager Bonnie Jewell noted that some of the youngsters participating in the coin scramble at the fair came over to the photo booth and dropped some of their “winnings” into the canisters. The photo contest winners each received a T-shirt from the animal shelter and $40 for first place, $20 for second place and $10 for third place. All the winners donated their winnings back to the shelter, said Jewell.
