Callovis named Friends of the Fair

IRON RIVER—It’s fair to say that Dave and Carol Callovi have been friends of the Iron County Fair virtually all their lives.
The Friend of the Fair plaque they will receive on Aug. 28, just before the Miss Iron County pageant, only confirms what everyone has known all along. As 4-H leaders and fair workers, the Callovis have been active for over 30 years. Counting back to when they first got involved, it’s well over a half century.

Poky project: IR council won’t pay payment on

IRON RIVER—At its regular monthly meeting on Aug. 20, the Iron River City Council voted to delay payment on a pay request for the Nelson Field Accessibility Improvements Project.
The handicap accessibility project began in June but has not progressed in a timely fashion, the council agreed.

Vandals damage Ice Lake Park

IRON RIVER—Ice Lake Park sustained damage over the weekend of Aug. 16 and 17, the Iron River City Council was told during its meeting Aug. 20.
City Manager Perry Franzoi said restroom doors were ripped off, partitions were damaged, picnic tables were dumped into the lake, and the dock was broken into four sections.

Road crews busy as summer nears end
