DNR approves grant for Nelson Field accessibility

IRON RIVER—    Work at Nelson Field has been given the go-ahead after the project won approval for a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grant.
A $49,900 grant for accessibility improvements was approved for 2014, according to a press release.

For six years, Michelle Tefft has taken her daughter, Rachel, and her friends caroling to the Iron River Care Center. On Dec. 21, the group visited the center’s residents and sang Christmas carols to them. Barbara Robbins is the area representative for Tipping Point Network, a group working to educate the public about genetically modified organisms.

BEECHWOOD—The Beechwood Historical Society is holding a special meeting on Jan. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a luncheon to update the three-year business plan.

IRON RIVER--Don McDonald, a member of the 12-person committee heading up the drive to raise funds for the endowment of a scholarship fund in the memory of the late Charles Kralovec who served the West Iron County school system for 36 years, recently said, “We want to correct a misconception that there is a bias associated with the fund.”

Gavin Johnson, right, Kane Alexander and Michelle Johnson spent part of Dec. 15 at Winks Woods as part of a fundraiser. The trio wrapped presents in exchange for donations to the Forest Park Elementary School fourth grade class trip to Mackinac Island next year. Students also wrapped presents at the Ben Franklin store and Sunshine Floral.
