A perfect day for taking kids fishing

On Saturday, June 13 boats motored from the Sunset Lake boat launch with kids ready to be taken fishing.  Joel VanLanen, of Iron River, and his son Joey follow the pontoon driven by boat captain Tim Hall. The Take a Kid Fishing Derby, which was sponsored by the Iron County Chamber of Commerce, had 35 young entrants and nearly 25 boats that took the kids fishing. Full Story



A good start to fishing season

Andrew Gussert and his cousins, Josh Martell and Carson Martell of Green Bay, Wis., landed this 48-inch musky on Saturday, May 23, while fishing on Chicaugon Lake.  It weighed 26.9 pounds and was aged at 17 years. Full Story

Backyard baby born

In Adele Baker’s backyard on Brule Street in Caspian, this doe dropped her fawn on the cool morning of June 1. Only a few hours old, the little babe snuggled close to mom and then wobbled to its feet. After a few steps it found its legs before lying back down on the lawn. Full Story



Be careful what your decoy attracts - Wednesday, June 3, 2009

Dan Harper of Old Beechwood Road in Iron River, would have taken a  very unusual photo on Saturday while sitting in his turkey blind if he wouldn’t have been so stunned by what he observed. Dan has two turkey blinds within sight of his house. On Friday, May 29, he noticed some birds finally coming in after a long absence. Full Story
