CRYSTAL FALLS - Kids have an opportunity to jump into summer and make a splash on the stage of Crystal Theatre. A five-day free workshop beginning Monday, June 5 culminates in two performances of “The Little Mermaid” Friday, June 9 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 10 at 2 p.m.                 The free workshop led by two drama director/coaches affiliated with Missoula Children’s Theatre is open to students who have completed grades 1-12. Pre-registration forms are at county schools and the Crystal Falls and Iron River libraries. In-person registration and casting of characters begins Monday, June 5 at 10 a.m. in Stage Left. Daily rehearsals are 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; actors are asked to bring their own lunch. No workshop registration fee is required for participation.
Directors for this production are Alyssa Dunavant and Mary McGough. Dunavant is a student at Oklahoma State University studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre and a minor in American Sign Language. McGough is a Chicago-based actor and music teacher with a BFA in musical theatre from Southeast Missouri State University.
Beginning in Missoula, Montana in 1970, Missoula Children’s Theater has brought the arts to all 50 states, Five Canadian Provinces and 16 countries. Celebrating its 50th year of touring, the Missoula Children’s Theatre International Tour has fostered developmental life skills in more than a million kids.
This new version of the age-old tale of “The Little Mermaid” is adapted by Jim Caron with music and lyrics by Michael McGill and Jim Caron. Delightful music, plot surprises and humor await the audience “under the sea!”
This unique activity for children is funded in part by the Michigan Arts and Cultural Council and administered by the Copper Country Community Arts Council. 
Tickets for the two performances will only be sold at the door. Actors in the production will receive two complimentary tickets for guests.
