CRYSTAL FALLS - As a prelude to Independence Day celebrations, Crystal Theatre will host a special screening of the documentary Lincoln is Crying: The Grifters, Grafters and Governors of Illinois Tuesday, July 2 at 7 p.m.

According to filmmakers Brian Kallies and John Davies and executive producer Dave Truitt, the non-partisan/comedy documentary is a scathing indictment of political corruption in Illinois.

Executive producer and editor Brian Kallies will be present for the screening and will answer questions about the film. Kallies is the son of Harry and Wilma Kallies, owners of The Crystal Waters Resort on Fortune Lake.

Director Davies said, “We wanted to make a documentary that conveyed the seriousness and depth of political corruption in the ‘Land of Lincoln’ and highlight the very real consequences corruption has for its residents. We added a dash of humor to make this bitter pill easier to swallow and put it all into a fast-paced 86-minute film that features a wide range of journalists, legal experts, artists and comedians”.

The award-winning film is narrated by the fictional great, great, great grandson of President Abraham Lincoln. Voiced by comedic actor David Pasquesi, James Todd Lincoln is concerned about what has been happening in his home state of Illinois; he’s certain “Great Granddad” would be too.

In real-life Illinois, since the late 1970s, nearly 2,000 elected officials and appointees from both political parties have been charged with and/or convicted of corruption. Four modern day Illinois governors have gone to prison.

Admission is by donation to benefit Crystal Theatre.
