The Community Closet in Iron River recently received two donations of winter apparel for children from GreenPharm, the medical and recreational cannabis dispensary located in Riverside Plaza.

Ashley George, district manager of GreenPharm, spoke about the company’s commitment to Iron County.

“Community involvement and outreach are core values at GreenPharm,” said George. “We approached the Iron County Economic Chamber Alliance (ICECA) and asked what the community needs.”

When members of ICECA indicated that families need help around the holidays, GreenPharm decided on providing winter wear.

“We wanted to help with essentials, like coats and gloves, so children won’t be cold this winter,” said George.

The Community Closet is a volunteer-run operation that offers new and gently used clothing to families in need. It is located on the third floor of the Windsor Center.

A small group of friends led by Fay Frailing have put their commitment to service and organizational skills to work at the Community Closet to give it an almost store-like feeling. Clothing items are free; however, there are reasonable limits so that as many people as possible can find what they need.

“We want to let GreenPharm know how grateful we are for the coats,” Frailing said.

At this time of year, the Community Closet is looking for new or gently used items in the following categories:

• Boys’ and girls’ clothing in sizes 4 - 16

• Winter jackets in all sizes

• Winter boots in all sizes

• Men’s jeans

Monetary donations are also appreciated so the items in shortest supply can be purchased. Those with clothing to donate can cotact Dawn Pisoni at the Windsor Center at 906-367-5218.

The Community Closet is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. - noon. It is located on the third floor of the Windsor Center, 612 W. Adams Street. There is an elevator for your convenience.
