WICS MS/HS Christmas concert 2023

IRON RIVER - The West Iron County Music Department performed their Christmas concert Dec. 14, in the Windsor Auditorium. 

The Middle School Orchestra opened the concert with some classic Christmas songs. These students are made up of first year players and beginners. The first selection they performed was ‘Sleigh Ride in the Park’ by Chris Thomas. The second selection was ‘Ode To Joy’ composed by Beethoven arranged by Del Borgo. Their third selection was ‘Sleigh Bell Rock’ written by James Kazik and the last selection was ‘Bells and Buccaneers’ based off of Ukrainian Bell Carol. 

Next the Middle School Band, also made up of first year players and beginners, started their portion of the concert with ‘Nicholas Variations’ by Michael Kamuf. Their second selection was ‘Let It Snow’ by Robert Smith and Michael Story. The third selection was ‘Bad Elf’ by Bryce Newton, and the last selection was ‘Winter Wonderland’ written by Felix Bernard.

The High School Symphony closed the program with a “Christmas at the Movies theme”. These students are made up of third through sixth year brass, percussion, string and woodwind players. The first selection was ‘Sleigh Ride’ by Leroy Anderson. Their second selection was ‘The Nutcracker Excerpts’ written by Tchaikovsky arranged by Roy Phillippe. The excerpts included; The March, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Trepak. The third selection was ‘Christmas Vacation’ written by Patrick Roszell and they closed with ‘The Polar Express Medley’ arranged by Jerry Brubaker.

The West Iron County Music Department is planning a busy schedule for the winter. Students are busy preparing for Honors Band, Jan. 19 - 20,  Solo and Ensemble, Large Group Festival and two more concerts with dates to be set soon. We hope to see you there.
