IRON RIVER — As the colder months arrive, the West Iron District Library has planned a variety of unique indoor programs for all ages during the month of November. Residents do not need a library card to attend, and programs are free of charge.

Students and families can enjoy a variety of craft and themed events including Salt Painting - Nov. 6, Zentangle Art - Nov. 9,  DIY Treasure Chest - Nov. 20 and Perler Bead Art - Nov. 27. “These programs are geared toward school aged children and teens and are a “drop-in” style program where families can show up anytime between 3 - 4:30 p.m. to complete the craft of the day,” explained Erika Sauter, Program Coordinator. The library is also offering a Dinovember Day on Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. featuring crafts, books and activities all about dinosaurs.

“Adults have a multitude of opportunities to expand their horizons in November, too,” said Sauter. First, a Beginner Tai Chi class will be offered on Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. “Tai Chi is a gentle exercise that encourages mobility and mindfulness, helps relieve stress and improve balance,” she explained. The class is free and will be taught by instructor, Irina Tarbeeva, who has been practicing and teaching Tai Chi for more than 20 years. “This class is great for first-timers and is accessible for those with limited mobility,” Sauter said. “Attendees should RSVP so plans for room arrangement can be made accordingly.”

Adults with the bug to travel are encouraged to attend the Library’s first ever Armchair Airline program where they can virtually explore the country of Belgium, enjoy a Belgian treat and a featured spice. This will be held on Nov. 17. at 11 a.m., and facilitated by Sauter who has visited the country. The plan is to feature different countries, facilitated by folks who have visited to provide travel tips, interesting trivia and always a food and spice from that nation. RSVP is appreciated for this program.

Finally, adults can enjoy a Coffee and Craft program on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon. The craft will be pumpkin pie boxes that can be used for place settings for Thanksgiving gatherings or just as a little gift for someone. This craft is easy enough for anyone to do and attendees can complete up to 10 boxes per person.
