Wykon Family Fun Run a school tradition

Event celebrates tenth anniversary

IRON RIVER – The tenth annual Stambaugh Elementary Wykon Family Fun Run 5K took place June 2 at Nanaimo Park. This year the run partnered with Thrivent and collected non-perishable food items and personal items at the school the month of May. Thrivent matched $3 per item up to $3,000. All items collected were donated to the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry. Race coordinator Denise Maloney began the fun run 10 years ago after applying for and receiving a wellness grant. The requirements to receive the funding included the school planning and hosting a 5K. The event was so well received it has become a tradition held on the last day of school.
