CRYSTAL FALLS — Senior Adult Day programs return to Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp after the coronavirus pandemic forced an 18-month hiatus for the programming.

The first program welcomes Phyllis Carlson and her partner Journey, a Great Horned Owl, Mon., Sept. 13.

A former 911 Dispatcher, Carlson recently retired after more than 30 years as a state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator. Carlson and Journey have presented educational programs about owls for schools and other interested groups for 20 years.

Carlson moved to the U.P. in 1973 from Virginia. She currently lives in Quinnesec with her husband Walt, who shares her love of nature. In addition to her fondness for owls, Carlson enjoys photographing wildflowers, particularly native orchids and other threatened or endangered species.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. with coffee fellowship in the camp dining hall. Weather permitting, part of the program will be held outside; masks will be required when indoors. A donation of $10 is requested for lunch.

To make reservations, call the camp office at 214-2267 by Friday, Sept. 10.
