CRYSTAL FALLS – “The Wonderful World of Bees” will be the focus of Senior Adult Day at Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp Monday, March 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Self-taught beekeeper, Bernie Driggs from Sagola, will be the featured speaker.
“Sometime in the late 70s, I wanted to make Mead (honey wine),” Driggs recollects, “so I bought what I needed to build a hive, ordered a package of bees and I was a beekeeper, or so I thought. “
The novice beekeeper read a lot, learned from his mistakes, and in a few years had honey to bottle. Today, as a member of Northwoods Beekeepers of Iron Mountain, Driggs is dedicated to educating the public on the importance of the honeybee.
According to Driggs, the program will also include a brief history of the honeybee, a look at a year of a beekeeper, and an introduction to beeswax “from the hive to the candle.”
To make lunch reservations, call the camp office at 906-214-2267 by Friday, March 11.  A $10 donation is requested.
