IRON RIVER — The West Iron District Library is once again sponsoring the Summer Reading Club to be held in June, July and August. As in previous years, Bonnie Wilgreen will lead the discussions which will convene at 10:30 a.m. in the J. Patrick White Conference Room.
The first meeting will take place on Thursday, June 23. The novel under discussion is “The Vanishing Half” by Brit Bennett.  Bennett tells the story of twin sisters who grow up in a small black community in rural Louisianna. The girls run away at age 16 and, eventually, go in separate directions.
Years later, one sister returns with her daughter to the small town she tried to escape while the other sister passes as white, keeping the secret of her past from her husband and daughter. Many years later, though miles apart, the sisters’ lives are connected.
On Thursday, July 21, the discussion will focus on “The Christie Affair” by Nina de Gramont. This selection is based on the real-life 11-day disappearance of mystery writer, Agatha Christie. While local authorities have no luck finding the famous author, the reader is privy to her whereabouts through the narration of Nan O’Dea, Agatha’s  husband’s mistress. Throughout the 11-day period, O’Dea’s and Christie’s lives become intertwined in surprising ways.
The final meeting takes place on Thursday, Aug. 18, when the book under discussion is “Loving Frank” by Nancy Horan. Horan combines both fact and fiction to highlight the real-life scandalous relationship between Mamah Cheney and Frank Lloyd Wright. During the years Wright and Cheney were together, Wright designed and built his famous Wisconsin home and studio, named Taliesin. Its history is featured in this novel.
The public is invited to attend any or all discussions. Multiple copies of each novel are available to check out at the library front desk.
