IRON RIVER — The West End Players, a local community theatre group, are gearing up to perform the third and final production of their 2022 season, Disney’s “Moana Jr”.
The story follows island girl Moana, as she embarks on a wayfinding adventure to explore the ocean and save her people.
“Our production features a lot of kids who are new to the stage, and the return of some of our more seasoned kids,” said director Abigail Garcia, “They are all working so hard and it’s coming along beautifully.”
The cast and crew have been hard at work since September, learning and rehearsing well-loved songs including “You’re Welcome” and “How Far I’ll Go”.
“I have enjoyed watching everyone push themselves out of their comfort zone and overcome challenges,” said Garcia, who is making her directorial debut this season.
Moana Jr. is a stage adaptation of Disney’s 2016 animated film Moana. The musical title bears its “Jr.” suffix to indicate that it has been designed to be performed by young actors.
The performance features many colorful sets and costumes, and some exciting special effects. The team behind the show is looking forward to seeing the finished product come to life.
“I’ve enjoyed watching everything come together,” said Garcia. “The kids, the effects, the costumes—all of the special little parts that make theatre magic.”
Moana Jr. will be performed at the Windsor Center located on U.S. 2 in Iron River on Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m., Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. and Dec. 11 at 2:30 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes before show time, and tickets are $10 at the door. Cash purchases only.
