ESCANABA — U.P. veterans are eligible to receive a $50 grocery card and a $25 gas card via the U.P. Commission for Area Progress’s Upper Peninsula Veterans Program.

The deadline to apply is March 31. The program prioritizes first-time applicants and “those most in need.”

U.P. residents who are veterans, National Guard, U.S. Army Reserves or surviving spouses (not remarried) are eligible. Caregivers and service providers may assist an eligible person with the application process. Applicants must provide a valid mailing address or a contact who can receive mail on their behalf.

Cards cannot be replaced if lost or stolen, and cannot be redeemed for alcohol, tobacco, lottery or cash. Military service must be verified before assistance can be distributed.

Funding for the program was provided by the Bob Woodruff Foundation. To apply, call 906-282-0041.
