IRON RIVER — West Iron County National Honor Society students recently participated in their bi-annual highway clean up through Michigan’s Adopt-A-Highway program.         Seventeen students made it to the clean up last Saturday. They donned fluorescent vests,  gloves, and shoes to spend an hour of their time cleaning up the highway designated to the West Iron County National Honor Society.
WIC/NHS students volunteer throughout the year in many different capacities. They volunteer at sporting events, the Iron County Historical Museum, tutoring, church activities, and many other community programs. Their leadership and volunteering efforts are appreciated by many people. Students in National Honor Society must maintain a 3.3 G.P.A., show leadership, service, and character. They apply in the fall and an NHS faculty team reviews their application to see if they have qualified for this prestigious recognition.
During the winter, the students led a fundraiser at several basketball games called “Best Seat in the House.” People purchased tickets to see if they could get a chance to sit in a prized spot—a comfy couch—during the game.
The students have chosen the Northwoods Animal Shelter to be the recipient of the $250 prize money.
The students wish to thank all the people who participated and helped in the fundraiser.
