IRON RIVER – The West Iron District Library is hosting two free workshops on Friday, Feb. 3 for locals interested in improving their “digital literacy” with the opportunity to learn about cybersecurity, internet, computer and mobile device basics. These workshops will be facilitated by experts from Connected Nation (CN), a national nonprofit, in collaboration with AT&T and the Public Library Association.
“Our broadband research across the country shows that digital literacy classes like these are desperately needed because a large portion of our rural population have not had access to affordable high-speed broadband, and therefore lack the skill to use and leverage the new fiber optic networks that are currently under construction,” said Tom Stephenson, CN Broadband Solutions Manager.
The morning session at 10 a.m. will cover topics of computer and internet basics, and the afternoon session at 2 p.m. will be on cybersecurity and mobile device basics. “Please RSVP so we know how many to expect and can plan accordingly,” encouraged Erika Sauter, Program Coordinator. “We’re hopeful that by offering these workshops, more or our patrons will be equipped to use our digital library resources including Libby - a free app for e-books, e-magazines and audiobooks.”
Digital Literacy and Learning Workshops are part of CN’s mission to expand internet access and advance technology access across America. These workshops are made possible through AT&T’s Connected Learning and AT&T’s $2 billion commitment to narrow the Digital Divide.
