IRON RIVER — A new program has been added to the Summer Recreation Program through the Windsor Center.  The Kids Art and Gardening Club will partner with the Iron River Beautification Program and is open to all students of West Iron County.
The Art Instructor is Marquette Baker and the Gardening Instructor is Martha Rypstra.
The program is a three-part series that runs throughout the summer with the first part having taken place June 6 through 10.  The scope of the first week included creating an art project, a take-home garden project and introducing aspects of gardening and pollination. The students painted boards multi-colored with various themes to create a fence located on the side of the Michigan Works building on 3rd and Genesee.          A take-home bucket of potting soil and several different kinds of vegetable seeds were planted by each student to introduce healthy gardening.  The students also planted numerous flowers at the entrance of the Windsor Center.
For the second portion of the program, Windsor kids will water, weed, and maintain an adopted berm as well as create additional beautification projects for the City of Iron River.  Part two meets every Friday from June 17 through July 22.
The final section of the program, Windsor kids will put the final touches on the Art and Gardening Projects.  On Thursday, July 28, the City of Iron River Beautification Committee will meet with the Windsor Kids to evaluate the 2022 program and plan for the next Kids and Gardening Club project.
