IRON RIVER — The Iron River Beautification Committee recently received funding from the Downtown Development Authority which helped to purchase hanging flower baskets to be hung along the streets of Iron River this summer. It was also awarded money from the DDA for native wildflower seeds, which will be used to start planters and touch up the large berms around town.
The Beautification Committee has also scheduled a community-wide clean-up for May 20. The city will supply garbage bags. Volunteers will be assigned to different sections of Iron River, and the committee intends to collect and dispose of all trash and debris.
The clean-up day is open for any individual or business to volunteer. The West Iron District School has agreed to participate in the clean-up and it will be geared toward a Yooper Earth Day.
The committee has also begun discussions with WIC trades teacher to have students build flower planters for next year.
The Beautification Committee will meet at a different berm each month so it can continue progress with projects while members meet.
The committee meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. For more information or to volunteer with the community clean-up, contact Rick Kinsey at rick.kinsey@edwardjones.com.
