CRYSTAL FALLS — A 21-year-old Crystal Falls man was found dead in the Net River near Amasa on Aug. 17, according to a press release from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office.

The body of James Davis was located by the Michigan State Police dive team at approximately 2:30 p.m. The incident remains under investigation and it is believed that alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident.

Two days earlier, sheriff deputies received a report of a vehicle submerged in the Net River. The Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a vehicle located near the Snake River Rapids boat launch. The vehicle was removed from the river, but at that point the owner could not initially be located. Deputies, members of the Iron County Search and Rescue, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources searched the area including cabins but were unable to contact the driver.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Drone division also participated in the search.
