Local primary set for Aug. 6

IRON COUNTY — A primary election will be held Aug. 6, 2024. The ballot will include primary elections for U.S. State senator, District 1 Congressional representative, and 110th District State Congressional representative. 

Locally, elections will be held for Iron County Sheriff, county clerk and register of deeds, treasurer, prosecuting attorney, mine inspector, road commissioner, and County commissioners for districts 1–5.

Crystal Falls Township will vote for a township supervisor, clerk, treasurer and two township board trustees. 

Bates, Hematite, Iron River, Mansfield, Mastodon and Stambaugh townships will vote on a new township supervisor, clerk, treasurer, constable and two township board trustees.

The ballot will also include a millage request to increase senior centers’ millage by .27 mill through 2028. This millage would cover the Amasa, Crystal Falls and Iron River senior centers. If passed, the measure is projected to raise $186,620 in the first year.

Voters will also weigh in on increasing the millage for the county’s Meals on Wheels nutrition program by .10 mill, raising an estimated $69,112 in the first year. An equal increase is being requested for the Health Care Benefits Assistance millage.
