IRON RIVER — The Michigan State Police has been requested by both the Iron River Police Department and the Iron County Sheriff’s Office to investigate an officer-involved shooting.
The shooting took place in Iron River on June 24 at approximately 3:30 p.m.
The incident occurred at a private residence where the agencies were responding to a 911 call regarding a “disturbance,” according to MSP Public Information Officer Lt. Derrick Carroll.
According to Carroll, there were two officers involved in the shooting, one from each agency.
The suspect, a 45-year-old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. An autopsy was slated to be performed on June 25 in Grand Rapids, according to Carroll.
Due to the ongoing investigation, both Iron River Police Department and Iron County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment further or provide additional details.
“This is standard procedure for an outside agency to investigate an officer-involved shooting,” said Chief Curtis Bristol of the Iron County Police Department.
