IRON RIVER—As with nearly all public community events last summer, the annual Father’s Day car show was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic. But after a one-year absence, the event will return this year.
The 43rd edition of the car show will be held on June 20 on Genesee Street in downtown Iron River. The show will run from noon to 3 p.m. Registration begins at 9 a.m. The show is open to the public, and there is no admission fee.
This year’s events will be presented by the Iron County Classic Farm Machinery Club. For many years previous, the event was presented by the Iron County Pullers Association.
“We want to thank the Pullers Association for their many years of service,” said Fred Hauser of the Iron County Classic Machinery Club.
The weekend’s first event is the annual car parade, taking place Saturday, June 19 at 2 p.m. The parade features many of the antique and classic cars that will take part in Sunday’s car show. The cars will gather in the Riverside Plaza next to the former Shopko store. All are welcome.
“This is the first (downtown) community event of the summer and we want to start out with a big bang,” Hauser said. “Fathers, bring your kids on Father’s Day, see the cars and the (antique farming and industrial machinery).”
On Sunday, a wide variety of cars (and trucks) will be on display during the car show. Some are stock vehicles, while others have been restored and maybe customized by their owners.
There is one change this year. There will be no trophies awarded in the different categories. This year, organizers will present prizes donated by area merchants or cash that had been donated to buy the prizes.
Hauser said prizes will be awarded to all who register and participate in the show.
“Trophies are great for some, but what about the young kid who buys a $1,600 car from down the street and puts some exhaust pipes on?” Hauser explained. “They are as proud of their cars as the guy with the $250,000 car.”
Hauser said the event is just a part of the area’s busy summer slate.
“It bothers me when people say there is nothing to do here. Open up the shades and look around. There’s a lot to do around here.”
