IRON RIVER — The West Iron District Library will host a reception for Michigan Notable Books award winner, author Ellen Airgood,  on Wednesday, May 25, at 11:30 a.m. in the J. Patrick White conference room.  Her visit is part of the 2022 Michigan Notable Books Author Tour.
Following the casual reception at 11:30, Airgood will give a presentation about her latest work, Tin Camp Road.” Her other works include the novel South of Superior, Prairie Evers, a Bank Street Best Book for middle schoolers and The Education of Ivy, a companion book to Prairie Evers.
At age 25, Airgood came to the Upper Peninsula on a camping trip where she met the man she would marry.  She now lives in Grand Marais on the shores of Lake Superior and spends her time writing and running a diner with her husband, where she serves as waitress, pastry chef and bouncer.  She attributes life in a remote, small town and her experiences in the restaurant as the route she took to becoming a writer.
This event is free and is sponsored by the Library of Michigan, MIHumanities, the MIchigan Center for the Book, The National Endowment for the Humanities, the Friends of the Library and the West Iron District Library.
Following the presentation, there will be a book signing and an opportunity to purchase Airgood’s books. Copies of Tin Camp Road are available to check out at the library front desk.
