IRON COUNTY—Iron County and the surrounding area is fortunate to have a variety of selections for camping. Whether a big rollin’ RV or a pup tent in the woods, this area of woods and water gives both – with a lot in between.
Bewabic State Park on Fortune Lake between Iron River  and Crystal Falls is the anyone-anyway campground. It has all the amenities yet many sites have privacy and wooded surroundings.
The Klint Safford Memorial RV Park is in Iron River and on the Iron River. It is a convenient camping spot in town.
Paint River Hills Campground sits on 24 acres of scenic bluffs along the Paint River in downtown Crystal Falls near wooded trails for hikers and small-town stores for shoppers.
Lakeside parks like Runkle Lake Park, Camp Christine and Pentoga Park (on Chicaugon Lake) in the Crystal Falls area are family fun sites with beaches and play areas.
Many of the area parks are remote or semi-remote sites that offer a rustic experience for those who like to rough-it. With picnic tables, firepits, fishing areas and vault toilets. They are the Northwoods camping enthusiast’s paradise. Many of these are a part of Ottawa National Forest Campgrounds such as Lake Ste. Kathryn, Perch Lake, Deer Lake and the Paint River Forks.
Wilderness Shores offers a unique camping experience along the Michigamme Reservoir and Peavy Pond with numerous primitive camping sites.
Some campgrounds are small and quaint like Sunset Lake (Iron River), Glidden Lake (Crystal Falls) and Gibson Lake (Amasa).
With the forested feel of Lake Ottawa, Marion Lake and Imp Lake campgrounds, come the sense that you’re only minutes away from town by car, but miles and miles away.
