CRYSTAL FALLS— The Humongous Fungus Fest is mushrooming into a bigger event with added activities. This year’s festival will be held on Aug. 12 -13. 
    On Friday and Saturday, visitors cap off the fun with Sidewalk Sales and a city-wide rummage sale.
    The Fungus Fest Parade will roll down Superior Avenue at 6 p.m. on Friday. The theme set by the Crystal Falls Business Association is “Free Falling.”
    On Saturday, the Vendor Village will sprout up in the city parking lot. Crafts, food fares and more will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    Matt Williams from Shiitake Creek Mushroom Farm out of Aurora, Wisconsin will be set-up in the village with his products. He will also be offering foraging tours on Saturday.
    The Insiders, a Tom Petty tribute band will be playing at 7 p.m. on Friday night at the Crystal Theatre.
    The Crystal Theatre will be showing the Tim Warmanen movie “A Humongous Fungus Among Us” on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The movie plot is set in a quiet Upper Michigan town that becomes the center of an international media frenzy after three scientists discover a record-breaking ‘Humongous Fungus’ living next door. Decades later, the town and the scientists continue to embrace the fungus as a growing symbol of community and wonder.
    For the artistically inclined, businesses will have buckets of sidewalk chalk for those wishing to create art on the sidewalks of Crystal Falls.
