IRON RIVER – The Friends of the West Iron District Library is conducting its annual membership drive to urge present members to renew, and new members to join.
The Friends of the Library is a non-profit organization whose goal is to support and enhance library programs and services through various fundraising functions. The group meets monthly to plan future events.
Those who become members of the Friends organization are invited to attend board meetings as a non-voting observer.
The used book sale and bake sale were held this past July in conjunction with Rodeo Market Day. In December, the chili feed will be held prior to the Christmas in Lights Parade on Saturday, Dec. 3. Plans are being made to host Lunch With an Author sometime in the spring and to provide a more quiet study space for patrons.
With proceeds from the successful fundraising events and the generosity of the members, the Friends are able to share costs to improve services and underwrite the cost of programs. In the past, the group has purchased items for children’s programs, paid for carousels to house movie DVDs and music CDs, contributed to upgrading the electrical system, replaced worn furniture, helped fund the courtyard addition and most recently, subsidized the electronic sign visible from U.S. 2.
The continued support of the Friends is important to both the organization and the community as a whole. Dues and other contributions help to develop and strengthen library services. Equally important, is the time provided by Friends who volunteer for the various fundraisers.
Annual membership dues to belong to the Friends of the West Iron District Library are $5 per person or $10 per family. Anyone interested in renewing a membership or joining for the first time can stop at the library to fill out a membership form. Letters with renewal information will soon be mailed to present members.
