CRYSTAL FALLS – The Iron County Courthouse will be lit up green in honor of Veterans Day on Nov. 11.
Officially dubbed Operation Green Light, the initiative is led by the National Association of Counties.
It asks the nation’s 3,069 counties, parishes and boroughs to light their buildings green from Nov. 7–13 in honor of the holiday.
“This is a NACO-sponsored event that they do every year,” explained Mary Dalpra, administrative assistant with the County. “They’re asking for all municipal buildings to be lit green for the week leading up prior to Veterans Day. So, if we do it I will take a picture and send it into NACO and they can upload it to their website.”
The county has received special bulbs and colors for the campaign and encourages other local residents and businesses to participate by switching one visible bulb in their buildings to green or an interior light to spark conversation with friends.
“By shining a green light, we let our Veterans know that they are seen, appreciated and supported,” read a county news release detailing the campaign. “While this event is focused around the week of Veterans Day, participants are encouraged to continue the light year-round. Residents can share their participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.”
