IRON RIVER – The Friends of the West Iron District Library will host lunch with an author on Wednesday, June 7, at 11:30 a.m. in the J. Patrick White conference room.
Tickets will be on sale from Friday, May 5 through Friday, May 26 during regular library hours. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are non-refundable. No phone reservations will be accepted. Seating is limited.
The featured author is Victoria Houston, author of the Loon Lake Mystery series, which includes such titles as Dead Angler, Dead Frenzy, Dead Madonna and Dead Big Dawg, to name a few of the nineteen titles in the series. Houston's most recent work, Hidden in the Pines, is the second of the Lew Ferris mysteries. Her mystery series was featured in a story on the front page of the Wall Street Journal in 2004 and on NPR's "Talk of the Nation with Neal Conan" in 2006. Both can be seen and heard on the website www.victoriahouston.com.
Born and raised in the Rhinelander, Wisconsin area, Houston left in her twenties. She wrote magazine and newspaper feature stories and directed promotion and publicity for Andrews & McMeel/Universal Press Syndicate where she worked with writers and cartoonists such as Abigail Van Buren, Gary Larson, Erma Bombeck and Garry Trudeau.
In 1996, Houston moved back to Rhinelander where she had grown up fishing for walleye, bluegills and muskie and  where she later learned to fly fish. Not surprisingly, Houston's Loon Lake Series is set in and around the lakes of northern Wisconsin that are well-known to her. "I realize this is a culture I grew up in", stated Houston of her use of fishing in her novels. "The world of fishing is home to me."
In addition to writing fiction, Houston has written or co-authored seven non-fiction books, including Alone After School: A Self-Care Guide for Latchkey Children and Their Parents and Making It Work: Creative Solutions For Balancing Your Career, Marriage, Children and Personal Life.
The author will leave time for questions and will conclude the event with a book signing. Copies of her novels will be available to purchase.
Several of her works are available to check out at the library. For more information about the event, contact the library at 906-265-2831.
