Readers Viewpoint 3-8-2023

To the Editor,
The Bates Hall Preservation Society is disappointed to officially report that the moving of the 1907 Historic Bates Township Hall will not take place in 2023 as envisioned. Grants were applied for but not enough financial response was received, at this time, to permit the undertaking of the move. The project is being pushed to 2025 due to the number of elections scheduled for 2024 and the need for a fully functioning hall. It was agreed by both parties to 2025, to alleviate any hardship to the Township and Bates Township voters. 
The Society has not given up and continues to enlist assistance in funding, either personal or in the form of grants. Fundraisers will continue as well. The Society appreciates the continued support of this very important historical project. Their motto is: “Together we can do great things.” A job worth doing is worth doing correctly so it will last another 100 years.
