To the editor,
With the price of goods soaring, gas prices hitting all time highs, and supply chain issues often leaving items out of stock, thrift store shoppers are finding that they can often get many of things they need at budget friendly prices.  In fact, buying lightly used goods at greatly discounted prices has never been more in demand.  In addition to the stores already in Iron County, residents have a new store to add when making their thrift store rounds.  Iron River Community Thrift Shop brings another option for community focused secondhand shopping to the area, offering everything from clothing to housewares.
I find that people tend to shop at thrift stores for different reasons. For some people it’s entertainment.  They like to scour everything in the store looking for that special treasure.  For others, it’s a way to buy things they need for less.  And still for others, bargain shopping is a way of life, shopping ahead at reduced prices for things they will likely need in the future frees up their dollars to spend elsewhere. Shoppers like to visit every thrift store in the area when they’re shopping, as each store is likely to have a different set of items to choose from.
Thrift store shopping is also beneficial from an environmental standpoint.  People care and don’t want to send their unused or lightly used wares or clothing to the landfill when there’s still life left in it.  They also like the idea of helping others in their community through their donations of things they no longer need.
Located at 112 Gibbs City Road, Iron River Community Thrift Shop is just 2 short miles from downtown.  They are a for profit shop that supports the community by offering low prices, and they contribute to local charities from their proceeds.
