ESCANABA - The National  Trappers Association Convention and Outdoor Show is being held at the U.P. State Fairgrounds this year. An estimated 8,000 to 10,000 outdoor enthusiasts are expected to attend. Dates are July 27 – 29, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (EDT) all three days. Food and refreshments will be available.
Many legendary trappers will attend selling their wares, giving demos or just hanging out. There will be something for all the family to enjoy. Many activities for the kids. Over 125 inside vendors offering deals on all kinds of outdoor equipment will be attending, along with  countless tailgaters. One never knows what treasure could be found at this event.
So far, the committed food vendors will be: The Curious Pig, DeBacker Farm, D & M Subs, We Be Popping, The Brisket Barn, Chuckwagon Pulled Pork, Mickeys Food on Wheels, Steam and Gas Cook Shack, and Yooper Shaved Ice. Camping is available on the grounds.
There will be 24 demos done during the three days in the main demo building. This year we have three very accomplished female trappers doing demos in this building – Linda White, Sarah Gomez and Megan Lockwood. For a complete list of presenters and their topics along with other convention information go to www.uptrappers.com. (Please note: Some demos are for NTA members only).
This convention is family friendly. There are lots of events such as raffles, contests, hands on activities, fishing and more for the kids. Including the “Kids Cave” which makes learning fun and easy. The “She-Side” will keep the ladies entertained and educated as there will be 14 demos with all female presenters. Many of the cast members from the wildly popular show –The Last Alaskans - are going to be here this year. Marty Meierotto of the History Channel’s Reality Show Mountain Men will be in attendance as well. Many more celebrities will be present.
“This event is the biggest and best outdoor sports event in the Upper Peninsula,” stated Richard Bartoletti (member of UP Trappers District 3). “There’s something for everyone’s interest and a lot of fun involved, along with lots of learning,” Bartoletti added.
