IRONWOOD — The Ottawa National Forest announced on Sept. 22 that maintenance work on Forest Road 3985 (also known as Marion Lake Campground Road) will begin soon.
Marion Lake is a popular destination for campers, fishermen and outdoorsmen. This 317-acre lake is located just east of Watersmeet and features two separate boat ramps, 39 single camp sites and one group camp site.
Visitors to the area may have noticed large equipment moving into the area as early as Sept. 22. Limited construction will take place once equipment has been staged. Work will continue in the area through October.
During this initial construction, the road to the campground will remain open. The road will close on the morning of Oct. 4 until the project is complete.
The first boat launch will remain open for use during the construction period. Traffic controls and signage will be established to ensure worker and public safety.
The public is reminded to obey all directional signage and to watch for large equipment moving to and from the construction site.
Updates on the construction project and access to the area will be provided as work progresses.
Funding for this project was received as part of the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. Those with questions related to this project can contact the Watersmeet Ranger District at 906-358-4551.
