BRUCE CROSSING - MI-TRALE is, once again, holding its Senior Fall Color Ride on Thursday, Sept. 28. This is an organized ride where volunteers bring their side-by-side ORVs, (Off Road Vehicles), to transport a senior citizen on a 15 mile ride, so they have the opportunity to enjoy the splendor of our autumn colors. The ride is free and includes a pasty lunch. Please go to the Club Stuff tab on our website: www.mi-trale.org and select the “Calendar option” for further information. Details will continue to be posted.
Even though summer is coming to an end, there are still plenty of great days left for ORV, trail riding. MI-TRALE, (Michigan Trails and Recreation Alliance of Land and the Environment), is a strong promoter of the safe and responsible operation of your ORV at all times when out on the trails. In keeping with that program of safety and courtesy to your fellow riders, we thought it might be a good time for a small review of safe riding practices and trail etiquette.
Here are 12 simple steps that you can take to ensure that everyone has a great time out on the trails and both humans and vehicles return home in safe working order:
• Slow down – Speed and rider inexperience are the primary contributing factors for ORV accidents, serious injuries or, sadly, even death of riders.
• Ride sober and always wear a helmet – when required by law
• Ride at a speed safe for the most novice rider in the group
• Ride on the right side of the trail and stay on the tail
• Keep your lights on when riding no matter the conditions
• Operate your ORV within its limits and your own
• Be prepared to adjust for environmental conditions
• Only carry a passenger if your ORV has been made to do so
• Create a ride plan and share it with a home contact - Times for beginning and ending the ride, trails you intend to take, stops you plan to make and check-in points to advise your home contact of your progress and any plan changes.
• Please remove any encountered obstacle to the trail side
• Interact respectfully on mixed-use trails
• Have proper stickers and know the area’s rules and regulations
MI-TRALE wishes everyone many more safe and fun-filled rides. If you see us out on the trails, be sure to stop and say, “Hi”.
