Dear Reader,
We are happy to announce that Multi Media Channels, MMC, has recently acquired this publication and several other media properties from Delphos Herald, Inc. and the Cohen family. We plan to continue their generations-long stewardship of providing local news to the community. They have set a high standard of quality reporting and disseminating local news that we will embrace with their team steadfastly in place.
Our focus is on hyper-local news. We believe that the merging of our employees into one big family will only make us stronger in our joint mission. The quality of work done for many years speaks for itself, and we hope to sustain this level of coverage and possibly even exceed it.
With your continued support, our success in serving your community is assured. -

IRON RIVER/GREEN BAY, Wis. — Ownership of the Iron County Reporter and the Iron County Reporter Shopper’s Guide changed hands last week with the purchase of the newspapers by Multi Media Channels, a Wisconsin-based media company.
The company was purchased April 14 from longtime owner, Delphos Herald and the Cohen family.
Patrick Wood, CEO of MMC, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the acquisition.
“We are excited to assume the Cohen family’s stewardship of these publications,” he said. “We intend to strengthen and enrich the community by continuing to provide strong reporting on local news and sports, and powerful advertising options for retailers and employers.”
The Iron County Reporter is currently in its 138th year of operation. It was purchased by Delphos Herald in 2008.
“It is our intention to sustain the Cohen family’s legacy through the years to come by maintaining and, if possible, exceeding the high standards of journalistic integrity and customer service they set during their tenure,” Wood added.
General Manager Wendy Graham and Editor Allison Joy agreed that the transition to another family-run company with decades of newspaper experience should be a positive step.
“In an era of ongoing consolidation and a waning number of local news outlets, we welcome MMC’s commitment to quality community journalism,” Joy said. “Our team looks forward to continuing to provide independent news to the residents of Iron County under our new ownership, and we thank Delphos and the Cohen family for their years of stewardship.”
MMC was founded in 1953 in Denmark, Wisconsin by Frank Wood, Pat Wood’s father. The company owns a number of small Wisconsin-based publications.
Along with the Iron County Reporter, it also recently purchased the Vilas County News and Review based in Eagle River, Wisconsin and the Waushara Argus based in Wautoma, Wisconsin. The Iron County Reporter is the company’s first Michigan paper.
“The quality of work done for many years speaks for itself, and we hope to sustain this level of coverage and possibly even exceed it,” Wood said. “With your continued support, our success in serving your community is assured.”
