CRYSTAL FALLS —Down two sets in its first match in a month, the Forest Park volleyball team put together a spirited comeback against Rapid River on Oct. 15. Unfortunately for the Lady Trojans, the climb back into the match may have emptied their tank as Rapid River left Eddie Chambers Gymnasium with a 25-22, 25-22, 16-25, 19-25, 15-6 win over the Lady Trojans.
After five matches were cancelled because of COVID-19 restrictions, Forest Park took the court for the first time since Sept. 15. FP coach Bobbie Anderson said she wasn’t sure what to expect of her team after such a long layoff.
“We started off a little slow in sets 1 and 2 but gained momentum in sets 3 and 4,” she said. “Rapid started off strong in set 5 and we weren’t able to gain the momentum back like we had hoped.
“Even though we lost tonight I’m proud of our team. We are definitely improving, and the girls are working hard.”
Gracie Peterson and Megan Bucek led the FP attack with nine kills each. Ema Stepien added seven, Elaina Perry chipped in with six and Rayven Jacobsen contributed five.
Jacobson directed the offense with 25 assists, while adding 15 digs and two aces. Maddie Divine recorded four blocks, four digs, two assists and a kill for the Lady Trojans.
“Maddie Divine also stepped up for us tonight and had an outstanding game,” Anderson said. “Our setter, Rayven Jacobson, did a nice job running down the ball and getting it to our hitters.”
The Lady Trojans were scheduled to host West Iron on Tuesday, followed by a trip to North Dickinson on Thursday.
