Run Your Bass Off winners announced

CRYSTAL FALLS — Results of the 40th annual Run Your Bass Off held on July 11 during the Bass Festival weekend in Crystal Falls have been announced.
The winner of the Full Bass 10K race (6.2 miles) was Katie Mendina of Norway, who ran a 43:18.3 and finished more than two minutes in front of runner-up Andrew Grosvenor of Green Bay.
The top local finisher was Jimmy Gathu of Crystal Falls (47:53.5). Gerald Styx of Crystal Falls also finished in the top 10 with a seventh-place result (48.02.9)
Age group winners from Iron County included Gathu in the male 30-39 division, Vienna Price of Crystal Falls in the female 12-14 division (1:00.09.3) and Fred Jacobs of Iron River in the male 60-69 division (1:02.51.5).
There were 29 runners who competed in the Full Bass event.
In the Half Bass race (3.6 miles), Ericka Vanderlende of Rockford won the event with a 21:34.4, nearly three minutes in front of runner-up Alex Hayden of Aurora, Illinois. Taylor Clark of Crystal Falls was the top local finisher (eighth, 27:18.6) while Izaiah Tarter of Crystal Falls (ninth, 28:04.3) also placed in the top 10.
Iron County runners who placed first in their age group included Clark in the female 20-29 division, Tarter in the male 12-14 division, Tatum Clark of Crystal Falls in the female 15-19 division (34:22.2), Jessie Surface of Crystal Falls in the female 30-39 (29:03.3), Noal Boehmke of Crystal Falls in the male 11 and under division (39:18.1), Will Toivonen of Crystal Falls in the male 20-29 division (29:26) and Donald Smith of Crystal Falls in the male 70 and over division (36:38.8).
In the 2-mile walk, Dindy Cousineau of Crystal Falls won the event in 30:24.3. Other Crystal Falls walkers who finished in the top 10 included runner-up Sarah Williams (32.35.1), Heather Strong (fifth, 34:19.2), Nicole Styx (sixth, 34:19.5), Michael Burge (seventh, 35:51.3) and Joyce Ziegler (10th, 39:22.8).
