IRON RIVER — A group of bikers from the Tour Da Yoop, Eh took time for a rest stop at the Klint Safford Memorial RV Park in downtown Iron River.
Tour Da Yoop, Eh is a 1,200 mile bike tour around the perimeter of the Upper Peninsula and is partnering with U.P. Lions Serve to endorse and promote their Childhood Cancer program.
Chris Smith is the Upper Peninsula Lions Childhood Cancer Chairman and spoke about the program.
The Lions support several global causes, including vision, enviornmentalism, and the fights against childhood cancer, diabetes, and hunger.
“Our families face challenges having to travel several hundred miles for doctor’s visits and medical treatment,” Smith said.
“Their families are turned upside down, many times one parent having to take an extended leave of absence or quit their job to travel with their child during treatments.  Most of our families travel for treatment to Wisconsin, to Mott in Ann Arbor, or to DeVos in Grand Rapids, and it is often several times a month.   We provide assistance for those needs.  We also support the nonprofit focus group, and we are developing a camp for children with cancer and their families at Bay Cliff Health Camp.”
