IRON MOUNTAIN – The first ever Iron Mountain/Kingsford Turkey Trot is set for Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 24 at 9:30 a.m. The timed 5K Run/Walk starts and finishes from the Northern Lights YMCA north parking lot.
“In visiting family in the area, I noticed there was not a 5K event in the Iron Mountain/Kingsford area on Thanksgiving morning,” said Derek Lindstrom, race coordinator and owner of 22 Events LIVE. “I thought what a terrific tradition to begin and partnering with the YMCA as the start/finish location just made perfect sense with the YMCA’s commitment to health and wellness in this community.”
The Iron Mountain/Kingsford Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk will start and finish at the Northern Lights YMCA and will run on beautiful neighborhood streets. All finishers will receive long-sleeve shirts. The IMK Turkey Trot will also feature commemorative race bibs for all, along with music and fun. Organizers will also be giving away 25 pies to those with the most Turkey Day spirit.
“We’re looking forward to a fun morning,” Lindstrom said. “I encourage anyone and everyone to join us. Get some exercise and fresh air ahead of the big Thanksgiving meal.”
Awards will be given to the top 3 overall male and female runners, as well as the top 3 overall boys and girls (12 and under).
The event is family and stroller friendly, but please leave the pets at home. Packet pick up will take place on race morning beginning at 8 a.m. in the Northern Lights YMCA parking lot.
The YMCA is closed on Thanksgiving, but restrooms will be available. For more information or to register for the race, visit https://www.22eventslive.com/imkturkeytrot.
