CRYSTAL FALLS – The Lady Trojans, a young team with a bright future, dropped to 1–2 on the season in a defeat to Carney Nadeau on Dec. 6.
The Trojans defeated North Central in their first game of the season but have subsequently dropped games against Bark River (55–36) and Carney-Nadeau (55–26).
Led by two scrappy freshmen, Ava Fischer and Elsie Williams, the Trojans are showing signs of a bright future but are committing too many turnovers to be consistently competitive. With each game, the experience of the team is growing. As the year progresses, Trojan fans could be in for some exciting basketball.
In their most recent effort, the Trojans were trailing 11–8 at the end of the first quarter but were only able to garner four points in the second quarter against 17 for Carney. The team was trailing at halftime 28–12.
By the end of the third quarter, the Trojans were down 43–22.
“We had too many turnovers again,” said the team’s coach Kim Bjork. “Offensively our ball movement needs to be better.”
Despite the turnovers, the Trojans had seven players who scored and have multiple players who can all eventually be difference makers: Ava Fischer led the team with eight points, followed by Lauren Kudwa (five points) and KD Woollard (five points).
Next up for the Trojans is a home game against Ewen Trout Creek on Dec. 13, followed by L’anse at home on Dec. 16.
