IRON RIVER – The Forest Park Trojans lost 65–50 to the Kingsford Flivvers on Jan. 9, losing their third game of the season against one win.
Despite playing an inspired game and trailing by only two points at halftime, 25–23, the second half did not go the Trojans’ way as they were outscored in both the third (18–13) and the fourth quarters (22–14).
Seven Flivvers scored on the night. With both a strong starting five and a deep bench, Kingsford is once again fielding an impressive team. Forest Park’s bench was outscored 8–0.
Both Coach Jason Price and Principal Jackie Giuliani, who filled in for Price due to his father’s passing, were very happy with how the boys competed against Kingsford.
“The boys left everything on the floor,” Giuliani said. “They played as a team and worked together to limit Kingsford’s scoring ability and control the tempo of the game. Unfortunately, Kingsford got to the free throw line 45 times, scoring 31 points from the line and those can’t be defended.”
The statistics, other than the number of fouls called on Forest Park, were even in almost all categories.  There were 27 fouls whistled against the Trojans and 15 against the Flivvers.
Sophomore Kevin Giuliani led the Trojans with 23 points and six rebounds. Fellow sophomore Gabe Quevado added 11 points to the effort. Sam McKissack led the team with 12 rebounds.
Next up for the Trojans is a rematch against West Iron on Jan. 19 (home) and an away game against North Dickinson on Jan. 24.
