CRYSTAL FALLS – The Forest Park Lady Trojans have won two of their last three games to improve their record to 3-9 on the season.  Recent victories over Stephenson on Jan. 13 (38-34) and North Central (51-40) have the girls gaining confidence.
The Trojans fell behind in the first quarter 14-9 against North Central and it appeared another loss was looming.  The Trojans found their stride in the second quarter, turned up the heat and matched their season high scoring for a quarter by putting in 18 points.  The Trojans went into halftime leading 27-20.  While North Central was able to pull within three points late in the third quarter, the Trojans closed the door and came out on top 51-40.
“We battled through foul trouble, did a great job of rebounding and our free throws were on,” said Coach Kim Bjork.  “Overall, it was a great team win and everyone was focused.”
The Trojans hit a season high 76% from the free throw line and out-rebounded their opponent 44-20.  Controlling the boards from start to finish was key to the victory.
Freshman Elsie Williams scored an impressive 20 points while her fellow classmate Jessie Loehr chipped in 13.   Sophomore Lilly Post, who has been a regular contributor to the box score all season, had a season high 11 points while junior Lauren Kudwa chipped in seven, including two three pointers.  Kudwa has sunk at least one three-pointer in 11 of the team’s 12 games this season.
While the Trojans continue to grow, the team is gaining experience as the season progresses. Bjork said the players “Are learning, growing and getting better as the season progresses.”
