CRYSTAL FALLS — After a brief winning streak which saw the Lady Trojans earn their second and third wins of the season, two recent defeats against Florence (44–18) and Carney-Nadeau (67–37) have the team once again trying to find the recipe for success.
With three wins and 11 losses on the season, the team continues to have impressive moments, but are unable to string them together consistently.
In their most recent loss against Carney-Nadeau on Jan. 30, seven players scored but only one in double digits. The team shot 30% from the three-point arc but only sank 24% of their shots that night. The bench was able to contribute 16 points, but the team only shot 50% from the free throw line.
After playing the first quarter without scoring and heading into halftime only having garnered eight points against 39 for their opponent, the Trojans outscored their opponent in the second half. Unfortunately, the slow start left the team unable to overcome the deficit and a final score of 67–37 sent the Trojans home with their 11th loss of the season.
Trojan Coach Kim Bjork was surprised to see the team not score in the first quarter.
“It was a very slow start for us offensively and we gave up too many easy baskets,” she said.
While the girls reflected grit and determination, it would be a rare team that could draw a blank for a quarter and emerge victorious.
“It was nice to see that the girls didn’t give up even with the score being the way it was at halftime,” Bjork said.
Delaney Wagner (10 points), Lilly Post (7 points) and Jessie Loehr (6 points) led the Trojans in scoring while KD Woollard led the team with six rebounds.
