CRYSTAL FALLS – The 2023 basketball season came to an end for the Lady Trojans on Feb. 27, in a first round tournament loss to North Dickinson. After a long season which saw the Trojans win five games against 17 losses, the offseason officially began with the final horn and a 51-24 loss.
The final game did not go the Trojans’ way and saw them fall behind in the first quarter 13-6. Their basket appeared to be invisibly capped as only eight of the 60 shots they took on the night fell and they could only manage five of 12 free throws. Forest Park Coach Kim Bjork reflected on the final game, “We couldn’t make a shot tonight.”
In the second quarter, the team did not score a single point. They trailed 24-6 at the half, 36-12 after three quarters and, though the Trojans did manage to put up 12 points in the fourth quarter, the deficit was too large to overcome.
Elsie Williams led the Trojans with 10 points, KD Woollard contributed four and Jessie Loehr added three. Lauren Kudwa, the Trojans’s three-point specialist, added one shot from beyond the arc.
“We have a young team and they understand we need to put the work in this offseason,” Coach Bjork stated.
For the lone Trojan senior, Riley VanSickle, who in just a few short months will be heading to boot camp for the Coast Guard, the loss marked the end of four years of Trojan basketball. “Although we didn’t have the best record, I always liked being part of the team.”  “I will always remember being part of something bigger than myself and the night I scored 20 points!”
