CRYSTAL FALLS – The Forest Park Trojans played well in their two most recent victories and are heading into the final games of the season with a 12 and 7 record.
On Feb. 24, the Trojans matched up against Carney-Nadeau. Carney entered the match with a 3 and 15 record. The Trojans were quick to take the lead. Leading by four at the end of the first quarter, the Trojans went on a run and put on a most impressive display in the second quarter, scoring 28 points. By halftime the Trojans led 39 - 14 and by game’s end they had garnered their highest point total for the year at 84.
In earning their 11th win of the season, the Trojans were led by sophomore Kevin Giuliani who scored 17 and pulled down six rebounds. The team showed its depth as 10 players scored, three in double figures-Giuliani (17), Rintala (12) and Felix Quevedo (10).
On Feb. 28 the Trojans took on Ewen-Trout Creek who entered the game with a 7 and 10 record. The Trojans came on strong from the opening jump and were aggressive, pressing and seemingly everywhere on the court. The up-tempo play kept the Panthers from establishing their offense and Forest Park led 25 - 3 at the end of the first quarter and 37-13 at the half.
In limiting their turnovers to seven, the Trojans took care of the ball better than in any previous game this year. Their ability to move the ball effectively and set up quality shots led to a final score of 76-29.
Kevin Giuliani once again scored 17 points for the Trojans, while Felix Quevedo dropped in 14, and Gaven Rintala and Grayson Sundell both added 11.
Heading into the final games of the season the Trojans are playing well and seemingly peaking at the right time. After a final test on March 2 against a strong North Central Jets team which has a record of 14 and 4, the Trojans will head into the postseason tournament to play their first game against Norway on March 8.
