IRON RIVER – Ice Hawks 14U team traveled to Kalkaska, to compete in the MAHA State Playoffs March 10-12.
The Ice Hawks faced the Cadillac Vikings in Game 1, coming away with a 5-3 win. They dominated the ice in Game 2 against the Dearborn Mustangs with a final score of 12-1 and again against Farmington Hills Little Caesars coming out of the contest with a 9-1 victory. 
Their undefeated 3-0 record for the first part of the tournament earned them a spot in semi-final action, where they faced the Rochester Vipers. The Ice Hawks were able to pull away from their opponents with a sizable lead and final score of 6-1, punching their ticket to the Championship Game where they would again face the Cadillac Vikings. 
The score was 0-0 at the end of the first, but the Vikings could not hold the Ice Hawks off any longer. Scoring opened early in the second period and the Ice Hawks defeated the Vikings with a 7-3 victory to take home the title of State Champions.
The Ice Hawks are coached by Mike Hedtke, Nate Turpeinen and Jay Aldrich. The Ice Hawks finished their season with a final record of 47-7-1. The coaches, players and their families would like to thank everyone who helped make this trip possible.
