West Iron County public schools will be holding a Kindergarten Round-Up on Tuesday, April 11 in the Stambaugh Elementary gymnasium. Kindergarten Round-Up will provide an opportunity for new kindergarten students and their parents to meet teachers and tour classrooms as well as to register for school for the 2023 fall semester. New students need to be five years old by September 1 for kindergarten, and five years old by December 1 for Early Kindergarten.
WIC will be offering Early Kindergarten for the first time. Both Early Kindergarten and Kindergarten are all-day programs, five days weekly. Early Kindergarten provides a jump-start to prepare students for kindergarten readiness. The focus of Early Kindergarten is to learn letters and sounds, number sense to 10 and counting to 31, daily projects, rest/quiet time and movement breaks. Kindergarten is a more rigorous, fast-paced program in which students learn to read, number sense to 20 and counting to 100, with little down/rest time. Kindergarten prepares students for the transition to first grade.
A “Bridge to Kindergarten” program will be held June 5-8 to give new students the chance to become familiar and comfortable with the school, prior to the start of the semester.
