ESCANABA – It will be at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba, as part of the 64th Annual National Trappers Association Convention hosted by the U.P. Trappers Association (NTA) July 27-29.
First held in Spencer, Iowa in 2021, the Kids Cave is an opportunity for kids of all ages to experience a myriad of outdoor related activities, demos and seminars – all in one place at no cost to the parents (other than the usual convention admission).
It was expanded at last year’s convention in Lima, Ohio, doubling the numbers of activities and more than doubling the number of kids attending. This year the NTA will be fine-tuning the activity list once again. The Kids Cave this year will be in the Horse Barn and Arena and will be open from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, July 27-28 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday July, 29.
About 30 different activities are scheduled: how-to seminars, workshops and kid-led demonstrations; most of which will be available all three days.
Make it a point to visit the convention and bring the whole family. As noted, outside of the convention admission, the Kids Cave is entirely free, with activities to engage kids from 3-17. Many kids attend all three days. There are lots of giveaways and workshops where kids build things to take home and use.
The noon straw scramble is especially popular; kids find cash and tokens to redeem for prizes.
A full list of activities and times will be forthcoming. Check out www.uptrappers.com/kids-cave for more information and updates.
